The mini driveshafts + differential width is 400+470+215=1085mm
I will have the mitsubishi shafts cut down to the same total length

The driveshafts were cut too short. With the left hand shaft at full drop (without drop stop) close to the bump stop

It would appear that the ball can go in 30mm from the face.
